Media coverage of Clare Valley Aerodrome
The highlight of the day was the unveiling of the plaque for Michael & Rosemary Chigwidden. The stone was donated by Clare Quarry - thanks Russell for the chisel work. The plaque reads as follows:
"In recognition of Michael & Rosemary Chigwidden In the gifting of 27.96 ha of their farming land to the CVFG Inc at the Aerodrome opening in 2014. Stands as a testament to their commitment to the sustainability and future of the Aerodrome.
The Clare Valley Flying Group Inc is sincerely thankful for their extreme generosity."
Pictured above with the Chigwiddens is the present CVFG Inc Committee and Clare & Gilbert Valleys Mayor Allan Aughey OAM who spoke on how great an asset the Aerodrome facility is for the Clare Valley. Also on the day Members Stewart Michael entertained us with his superb aerobatic flying skills and Royd Fernandez of WSB Clare gave a drone demonstration enjoyed by all. Thankyou!
My excursion to Clare Valley Aerodrome last weekend was a real eye-opener and a delight to have done. The purpose was to help present the 2020 CASA Wings Award for the Aero Club of the Year to Clare Valley Flying Group, but the journey turned out to be much more than that. CVFG, who runs the airport, has built a magnificent facility that is everything you would expect from an enthusiastic, dedicated and supported group that was faced with a clean sheet.

Media LinkIf you have driven past the Clare Valley Aerodrome recently, you will likely have noticed a new addition to the entrance way.
And while it might just look like a ‘plane on a pole’, it is in fact the site’s new wind vane, and quite an engineering feat.
The plane and propeller move with the wind, it has a retractable undercarriage, and at night, solar navigation and cockpit lights illuminate.
The full-size, Tobago TB10 – a French-made trainer plane – was donated to the group by Flight Training Adelaide.
I'm hitting the road tomorrow for Clare, SA. My task in Clare on Saturday is to take part in the presentation ceremony for the Clare Valley Flying Group's Wings Award for 2020 Aero Club of the Year.

Very few new airports have been built in Australia, a testament to the flagging fortunes of the industry. Lucianne van Gelder examines one of them, Clare Valley in South Australia, and shows us how they got the job done.
The Clare Valley Aerodrome opening on Saturday 1st November 2014 was a huge success, with a large crowd in attendance.
The Aerodrome was officially opened by Richard and Peter Champion de Crespigny who said:
"We are privileged to join with you all to celebrate your remarkable efforts to build only the second private aerodrome in Australia in the last 50 years.
You have created a strategic asset that is the foundation for growth in health services, commerce, travel and tourism. This is an asset that will reward future generations."
